Troubleshooting
Fixes for common problems with rate tables, prices, specs, badges, menus, and wording.
The rate table does not show
Check these things, in this order:
- The product has an option with one of the names in Theme settings > Rental > Rental period option names (default
Rental period, Hire period, Duration, Rental duration). Capital letters and spaces at the ends do not matter, but the words must match. “Rental Period” works. “Rental periods” does not. In the theme editor, the Rental period picker block shows a note when no option matches. - The product has 2 or more rental periods. A table with one row does not show.
- The Rate table block is in the Rental product section and is not hidden.
The same name mismatch also stops the “/ day” price labels, the weekly rate on cards, the cost estimator, and the end date in Requested dates.
“Save x%” does not show
- Turn on Theme settings > Rental > Show savings in rate tables.
- The product needs a 1-day variant, for example
1 day. Savings compare each period with the daily rate. - The longer period must cost less than the same number of days at the daily rate.
- The period value must have a known unit (hour, day, weekend, week, month). See Period values the theme understands.
Cards show “From $49” instead of “$89 / day”
The card shows the 1-day rate when the product has a variant that is 1 day long. Without one, it shows “From” and the lowest price. Add a 1 day variant, or check the spelling of the value.
The weekly rate does not show on cards
- Turn on Theme settings > Product cards > Show weekly rate.
- The product needs a variant that is 7 days long, for example
1 week.
Specs do not show on cards or in Compare
- Check that the metafield definition exists in Settings > Custom data > Products.
- Check that the product has a value for that metafield.
- Check the namespace and key in Theme settings > Product cards > Spec metafields or Theme settings > Compare. It must be exact, for example
custom.weight, notweightorCustom.Weight. - Separate the keys with commas.
Cards show the first 3 keys only. Compare shows up to 6.
I cannot connect a spec row to a metafield
The Connect dynamic source list shows only metafields that have a definition. Create the definition in Settings > Custom data > Products first. See Create metafield definitions.
All products show the same spec values
You typed a value in the row instead of connecting a metafield. Connect each Value to a metafield with Connect dynamic source.
A spec row is missing on one product
Rows hide when the value is empty. Enter the metafield value on that product.
“Required with this rental” does not show
Add complementary products for that product in the Shopify Search & Discovery app. The section is hidden when there are no complementary products.
Status badges do not show
- Turn on Theme settings > Product cards > Show status badges from tags.
- The tag must start with
badge:, for examplebadge:New to fleet.
The delivery area check does not show
The Delivery area check block and section are hidden until you add areas in Theme settings > Delivery area > Delivery areas. Enter one area per line.
The quote button is not in the header
Check Header > Quote button > Button label. The button is hidden when the label is empty. When Link is empty, the button goes to your Contact page.
The mega menu promotion does not show
- The promotion needs a Heading. It is hidden when the heading is empty.
- Check Menu item. It must match the title of a top-level menu item, or be empty.
- The promotion shows only in a mega menu: a top-level menu item with nested links.
Collection images do not show in the mega menu
- Turn on Show collection images in the mega menu in the Header section.
- Images show only for second-level menu links that go to a collection.
The announcement bar does not show
The announcement bar is hidden in the default header group. Select Announcement bar in the theme editor sidebar and click the eye icon to show it.
Testimonial stars do not show
Set Star rating to the rating the customer gave. A rating of 0 hides the stars. Use only real ratings.
The British or Australian wording does not show
The hire wording shows only for customers who view your store in English (United Kingdom) or English (Australia). Text that you typed in the theme editor does not change. See Languages.
Sections do not fade in
Reveal sections on scroll is off, the customer’s device is set to reduce motion, or you are in the theme editor. This is expected.
A block shows a dashed note in the theme editor
Some blocks and sections have nothing to show on the product you preview. In the theme editor, they show a short note with a dashed border instead, for example “Rate table: hidden on this product”. Customers never see these notes. The note tells you what to add:
| Block or section | Shows when |
|---|---|
| Requested dates, Rate table, Rental cost estimator | The product has no rental-period option (and, for the rate table, fewer than two periods). |
| Rental period picker | No option matches Theme settings > Rental > Rental period option names. |
| Key specs and Spec sheet rows, License badge, Deposit and waiver, Collapsible row, Safety warnings | The text or value is empty. Add text or connect a metafield. |
| Delivery area check | Theme settings > Delivery area has no areas. |
| FAQ question | The question has no answer. A FAQ section with no answers is hidden. |
| Footer text block, Testimonial, Branch strip item, Location address | The text is empty. |
| Recently viewed | The shopper has not opened other products yet. |
| Product recommendations | Shopify has no recommendations for the product yet. |
