Getting started

Assay puts the EU legal guarantee notice on your Shopify product pages. Setup takes about five minutes, and most of it happens on its own.

1. Install Assay

Install Assay from the Shopify App Store. On the permissions screen you will see that Assay asks for your products, which it reads and saves the GARAN fields on, and to read your theme, so it can check that the notice is on your product pages. It never asks for your customers or orders, and it never edits your theme’s files.

Shopify then opens the app inside your admin. The first time, loading can take a few seconds while Assay finishes connecting to your store.

2. Read the Home page

Assay opens on Home. Your shop at a glance answers “am I compliant?”: whether the legal guarantee notice is live, how many products have a durability label, and your last bulk change.

Below it, Finish setting up says what Assay has already done: it added the GARAN fields to your products (duration, brand and model identifier, at the bottom of any product in Shopify’s Products page) and switched on the notice. The notice is on from the start, because it is mandatory for goods sold to consumers in the EU from 27 September 2026.

What is left is yours, under Show the notice on your product pages:

• Add the notice block (recommended). Assay never edits your theme, so you place the notice once in the theme editor. Add the notice to your product pages walks you through it.
• Or switch on the app embed. The one-switch alternative, for older themes. Use one or the other, not both.
• Optional: durability labels. Only if a producer gives a commercial guarantee of durability longer than two years on products you sell. Most shops can skip this. See GARAN labels.

3. See what shoppers will see

Open Notice in Assay’s menu. Its Preview shows the notice exactly as your storefront will, in one of the languages your shoppers may see. The wording and design are fixed by the EU and cannot be changed; Assay only chooses the language and the size.

4. Let Assay check it

Once you have saved the block or the app embed, come back to Home and click Check again. Assay reads your live theme and finds the notice: Home then says Live on product pages and Setup complete. If both the block and the app embed are on, Home warns you, because the notice can show twice. Check it worked lists every answer Home can give.

If Assay cannot read your theme, Home says so. Open a product on your store, look for the notice under the buy buttons, and click I’ve checked it’s on my store.
