Uninstalling and your data

What Assay can see

Your products, to list them and to save the GARAN fields on them, and your theme, read only, to check that the notice is on your product pages. Those are the only permissions Assay asks for. It has no access to your customers or your orders, and it never edits your theme’s files: everything it shows on your storefront is a theme app extension that Shopify manages.

What Assay stores

On Assay’s own servers:

• your shop’s myshopify.com address, plan and install date;
• your Assay settings;
• the result of the last theme check: whether Assay found the notice block or the app embed, and when;
• a record of each bulk change, with the result for each product, so you can follow it and clear it. Assay keeps each record for at least 90 days;
• the email address you asked Assay to send a result to, for that change, and the address you chose to remember, if any;
• the compliance record: each settings change, the theme check results and your plan changes, kept for 3 years while Assay is installed. Assay keeps it on every plan; viewing and downloading it is part of Assay Professional.

Assay does not store any customer’s personal data. Shopify sends every app its privacy requests about customers; Assay keeps only a record that each one was handled, with no customer details. Read the full privacy policy.

When you uninstall

Download your compliance record first. On Assay Professional, open Compliance record and click Download CSV. Once your shop’s data is deleted, the record cannot be recovered.

• Your storefront. Shopify stops showing Assay’s blocks and embed straight away. The notice disappears from your product pages, so if you still sell goods to consumers in the EU, put another notice in place first.
• Billing. Any paid plan ends.
• GARAN fields. Shopify removes the field definitions. It keeps the values for a while without guaranteeing how long, so a quick reinstall may find your labels still there, but do not rely on it. To keep a copy, use Export CSV on Assay’s Durability labels page before uninstalling.
• Bulk changes. A change still running stops. Products it already reached keep their new values.
• Assay’s records. Your shop is marked as uninstalled. We delete your shop’s data 48 hours after you uninstall Assay, unless you reinstall and open it before then. That means your settings, your bulk-change records, your compliance record and any email address you gave.

Reinstalling

Install Assay again from the Shopify App Store. It recreates the GARAN fields and switches the notice back on. Add the notice block again if your theme lost it.
